On your way to New York, we invite you to visit Texas and discover the Houston Ballet, one of America’s finest ballet companies, and the charming city of San Antonio.

ITINERARY:

Sat 02 June 2012:  Australia - Houston
Suggested departure from Australia on Qantas on the direct flight from Sydney to Dallas, connecting with a flight to Houston. Late afternoon arrival in Houston on the same day.
Evening welcome briefing and cocktail reception with Lisa Bolte and fellow ballet lovers. (R)

Sun 03 June:  Houston
Morning orientation tour of Houston, the 4th largest city in the United States. Discover the Museum District, featuring 15 world-class museums and the Houston Theater District, the largest outside Broadway with over 12,000 seats. Visit Sam Houston Park, where historical homes are nestled between skyscrapers, and drive through Montrose, one of the most diverse and interesting neighbourhoods featuring spectacular mansions, charming bungalows, the campus of the University of St. Thomas, Rothko Chapel, and the Menil Collection. Finish with a drive through the Texas Medical Center, the largest in the world, with 33.8 million square feet of patient care, education, and research space.
After a break for lunch, attend an afternoon performance of the Houston Ballet’s Triple Bill ‘Made in America’ (2.00 pm). Dinner at the hotel. (BD)

Mon 04 June:  Houston – San Antonio
After a leisurely breakfast, transfer to San Antonio by coach (310 km, 4 – 5 hrs including break).
San Antonio’s River Walk, Spanish colonial architecture, and fountain-laden parks and plazas make it one of America’s most picturesque cities. (BD)

Tue 05 June:  San Antonio
Enjoy a full day tour of San Antonio, beginning with a visit to the Mission San Jose, founded in 1720, the largest and known as the Queen of the Texas missions, with up to 300 inhabitants at one time. Continue to the Mexican Market, a three-block outdoor plaza lined with restaurants, shops and produce stands.
After lunch, visit the Alamo, originally established in 1718 as the city's first mission. The Alamo is the most famous spot in Texas, where David Crockett, Colonel William Barrett Travis, Jim Bowie and 186 others died fighting for independence on March 6, 1836, after repeated attacks from the Mexican General Santa Anna.
After a visit to San Fernando Cathedral, the day will finish with a private river cruise and time to explore the Paseo del Rio (River Walk), a network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonio River, lined with bars, shops and restaurants. (BL)

Wed 06 June:  San Antonio – Houston
After a morning at leisure to further explore San Antonio, return transfer to Houston in the afternoon. (B)

Thu 07 June:  Houston
Morning pre-performance talk followed by a visit to the Houston Ballet (subject to confirmation).

Afternoon at leisure before this evening’s performance of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ with choreography by Ben Stevenson, former Artistic Director of the Houston Ballet. (B)

Fri 08 June:  Houston – New York
Morning transfer to the airport for the flight to New York. Afternoon arrival in New York, transfer to your hotel in Manhattan. (B)
