ROSAMUND BARTLETT
Rosamund Bartlett is a well-known writer, lecturer and translator who specialises in the cultural history of Russia and Eastern Europe. She has taught at universities in Great Britain and the United States, and is currently Fellow of the European Humanities Research Centre at the University of Oxford. She is the author of many books, including 'Wagner and Russia' and 'Chekhov: Scenes from a Life' (named as the Moscow Times Biography of the Year in 2004). She has also worked extensively as a translator: her Chekhov anthology, 'About Love and Other Stories', was shortlisted for the 2005 Weidenfeld Translation Prize. She is currently completing a new translation of 'Anna Karenina', and a book to be entitled 'Opera in Russia: A Cultural History'. She has been travelling to Russia and Eastern Europe since 1978, and in 2005 founded the first Russian and East European Music Study Group in the UK under the auspices of the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies. In addition to her scholarly work, she enjoys writing articles for the programmes of Garsington Opera and the Royal Opera, participating in broadcasts on BBC Radio, and taking part in events such as pre-concert talks.
